Grief, Gratitude & Sanity (second edition)

Rory Watts (author), Nicky McAllister (co-author)

Grief, Gratitude & Sanity explores a true story of grief from two perspectives; losing a sister and losing a daughter. The subject, Mimi Watts, was killed in a freak snowboarding accident in 2012. The shock accident was covered by the BBC, The Times, The Daily Mail, Sky, Huffington Post and most major UK media outlets.

“Incredible depths narrated in beautiful style”

Written in parts from 2016 through to 2020, the book narrates the emotional experience of the tragedy in incredible detail using a paradoxically beautiful style. The writing has been hailed as "incredibly comforting" and "cognitive behavioural therapy in literature" by reframing tragedy to give a new perspective on life and death. It paints a pleasant veneer of beauty and gratitude on life's most inevitable moment. Rich in life lessons and entertaining tales, the book is widely considered to introduce a revolutionary approach to our perception of grief.

The main author, Rory Watts, was born in Suffolk in 1985. He worked as a designer before founding a charity in memory of his sister. He has written many articles, but Grief, Gratitude & Sanity is his first published memoir. The contributing author, Nicola McAllister, was born in Jersey in 1950. She was one of the first female stockbrokers to work in The City of London and was a member of MENSA.
